A Brief History Of The Actual Churchill
War Rooms.
For
those of you who are not familiar with Winston Churchill's
War Rooms, here is a brief history:
After World War I it was evident that mass bombardment
could lead to a severe crippling of the British government
and its decision-making process - especially the prime
minister and his cabinet.
To enable the prime minister to run the country and make
war time decisions, it was determined that a deep, underground
bunker be built beneath the 'Office Of Works' building
near St. James Park in central London.
Actually, there were (3) rooms in the complex:

 |
The
Cabinet Room
This is the main room where Churchill
and cabinet ministers and military
leaders led the war. |
| |
|
 |
The Map Room
This room kept all secure map
documentation important to
the war effort. |
| |
|
 |
Churchills Bed
Many times it was too risky for Churchill
to travel back to 10 Downing Street. He spent
many nights at this location during the war. |
The PUB Room
Hey, if we had been involved in the designing of the War
Rooms
we would have added this one!
